Tosha Renée Edwards
Deputy Chief Young was alleged to have been intimidating, unprofessional and rude during the follow-up meeting on Edwards's earlier complaint about Cpl. Schedler (OPS 2022-0032).
- Deputy Chief Jeff Young
- Commander Dean Thomas (witness)
What the file shows
Edwards's contemporaneous email to Chief Beazizo timestamps specific moments: "58:10–58:50 Makes a comment to Olivia about her grammar. He says it with a 'How stupid are you' tone then says 'my god' as he rolls his eyes…" "16:43 Told the subject that he will make sure we don't 'bother him.' He never offered any kind of reassurance to us AT ALL or made us feel understood."
Edwards's later email about the same Young meeting: "I would like to know what right he has to bring up a previous LSPD incident with my same son, as if to make it look like my son is a bad kid… Pure intimidation tactic and totally unnecessary. Then, when we were talking about the body camera during our second meeting to go over it, DC Young suggested that we 'Make the body cam public' because, according to him, no one else would agree with me. Then he followed up with 'I assume you already did considering your disdain for our department.'"
An independent witness — Rachel Escoto — submitted her own "Meeting Feedback" email to LSPD and Chief Beazizo on Jan 17, 2023 corroborating Edwards's account. Both are preserved in the IAPro file.
Final disposition: Supervisor Intervention. Action taken: "Informal - Verbal Coaching - 02/14/2023 — Supervisor reviewed video with employee and discussed actions."
Why this file matters
The Deputy Chief intimidated a complainant during the meeting reviewing her son's racially-loaded prior complaint. Chief Beazizo verbally coached his Deputy Chief and closed it. This is the retaliation feedback loop the Bloom Second Amended Complaint alleges as policy.
